Training Dogs & Enjoying Brews: Our 5-Week Program at Vicious Cycle Brewery

This summer, we had the pleasure of hosting a unique 5-week dog training program at Vicious Cycle Brewery. Combining expert-led training with a relaxed, social environment, the program gave dog owners the tools and guidance to strengthen communication, practice obedience, and build confidence in their dogs, all while enjoying the brewery’s welcoming atmosphere.

What We learned in the basic dog obedience program?

Our program covers basic obedience and life skills for dogs of all ages. Dogs and owners practice:

  • Sit, stay, place, and leash manners

  • Recall and distance commands

  • Proofing behaviors in different environments

  • Leave it, touch, and impulse control

  • Socialization skills and engagement games

Owners learn step-by-step guidance to communicate effectively with their dogs, build consistency, and create a stronger bond. This program is perfect for those looking for dog training classes in Colorado with a fun and relaxed twist.

A Step-by-Step Approach to Learning

The program was designed to guide owners and dogs through a structured, week-by-week training journey:

Week 1 – Learning the Fundamentals
We kicked things off by introducing training principles, engagement techniques, and effective communication. Dogs practiced basic commands such as sit, place, and leash manners, setting a strong foundation for the weeks ahead.

Week 2 – Building Stay and Recall
Owners learned the importance of distance, duration, and handling distractions. Dogs practiced staying in place and coming when called, helping to reinforce consistency and focus.

Week 3 – Proofing and Generalization
Week three focused on proofing commands in different scenarios and learning proper body handling. This step ensured that dogs could respond reliably, no matter the environment.

Week 4 – Advanced Commands & Fun Games
New commands like “Leave it” and “Touch” were introduced, and interactive games such as our “Build a Beer” recall brought lots of excitement. Dogs got to practice their skills while having fun, and owners saw their training efforts pay off in real time.

Week 5 – Graduation & Optional CGC Test
The program wrapped up with a graduation ceremony celebrating all the progress made. Owners had the option to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, marking an official milestone in their dog’s training journey.

Celebrating Success

The program was not only educational but also a chance for owners and dogs to bond and enjoy a community experience. A group photo captured the fun, smiles, and wagging tails of our participants, making it a memorable conclusion to the five weeks.

Why Programs Like This Matter

Many dog owners struggle with miscommunication, which can lead to inconsistent behavior. Our step-by-step program shows owners how to communicate clearly with their dogs, reinforcing positive engagement and confidence.
